Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 08/25/2021

Number: 56

This year I found more Monarch eggs on my milkweed than I have ever had. I raised 56 from egg to caterpillar. Towards the end the older caterpillars were eating me out of milkweed and I had a lot. I was panicking! Calling everywhere for milkweed plants. Then I decided to call the Roper Mountain Science Center, they couldn't take them, but they had an employee they called the bug lady, Ann. Ann called me and said yes she could take half, she had plenty of milk weed still! I was so relieved. I knew that they just needed another day or so of chowing down before they went into their "J" stage. All of the Monarchs made it! They were all released and I hope they make it to Mexico or wherever mine from South Carolina go. :)
