Clusters of Monarchs were in the cedar trees located at the lighthouse.
[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 09/10/21]:
This was an estimate. There were clusters of Monarchs roosting in the trees. Several were approximately 60. There were Alain many flying along the shoreline.
(observed from 4pm to 5pm on Wednesday).
Many were flying into the trees. We didn’t witness any flying over the lake south. They were 8 ft to 30 ft from the ground. I did not witness any feeding behavior
They were roosting primarily in a small patch of cedar trees along the lake shore by the lighthouse. Another onlooker lived 5 miles away and said he had about 200 in his yard at the moment.
We did not have the greatest weather all day. Spotty showers and wind. Was very surprised to see them our first visit.
