Asclepias syriaca, common milkweed. These plants are in an artificial sand prairie in partial shade. All blooms were removed so the plants are in OK condition. Some plants have the lower leafs removed for feeding monarch caterpillars. Several seedlings have sprouted along the highway ditch from seed sown last fall. These young plants are short, but in excellent condition.
