I counted 12 monarchs over a 5 minute period as I walked a few hundred feet. The majority were flying from evergreen tree to evergreen tree.

I saw this while on a hike at the Volo Bog State Natural Area. I counted how many monarchs I saw flying or on the evergreen as I walked down the trail for 5 minutes. There was an open Prairie just across the path from the evergreen trees. They were on the SW side of the trees, so presumably shielded. However it was not a breezy evening.
