Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/10/2021

Number: 9

Monarch Waystation #271 reports a big day of sightings, 1:30 pm to 4 pm. Gorgeous, breezy, sunny weather in the 70s brought out the larvae gradually as I tended the yard both front and back. Did not diligently hunt for eggs or larvae. Photo shows 1 possible 3rd instar on front yard Tropical milkweed. Also seen in front: 2 4th instars, 4 5th instars, all feeding or resting on Tropical milkweeds. Back yard revealed another 3rd instar [resting] and another 5th instar feeding on separate Swamp milkweeds. Both natural and heat pump breezes among the Swamp milkweeds caused blurred photos that could not confirm the small larva's instar status, but it was a close "twin" in size and shape to the front yard larva pictured.
