Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/09/2021

Number: 100

This is at Johnson's point in Branford CT

[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 09/25/21]:

I’m not sure when the roosted started but we noticed it for 2 days before they were gone.

We live on a peninsula with many organic gardeners lots of asters and butterfly bushes.
We all plant many varieties of milkweed
And a few of us raise the caterpillars and release the butterflies.

Overnight temperature was in the mid 60’s

Wind direction I do not remember but they were roosting on a nut tree and were very protected from our wind off the water.

My estimate is 50 plus butterflies both regular size and smaller size.
