Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/13/2021

Number: 40

Over 40 caterpillars in my milkweed patch. All from wild female Monarchs. Mature Monarchs are seen daily flying in the neighborhood. This is the 2nd 'wave' of Monarch reproduction since activity began in early July, as the weather matured the native milkweed that had sprouted from last season's seeds. After first wave, I pressure washed my milkweed when little or no caterpillar activity was apparent, to get rid of spider mites, etc. With clean/refreshed milkweed, this new wave of activity is more robust than the first, due to numerous mature adults in the vicinity.
