Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/18/2021

Number: 3

Three deceased monarchs that were part of a group of six raised in captivity (the other three were reported as sightings on the dates of their release, 8/16 and 8/17).
- 1st deceased monarch died after exhibiting unusual behavior before attempting to "j" and falling to bottom of container.
- 2nd deceased monarch died in chrysalis after turning black.
- The chrysalis of the 3rd deceased monarch fell within first 24 hours of being formed. It was not appear cracked or misshapen so we reaffixed it with thread and it developed normally. A male eclosed and appeared strong and perfect. Kept him indoors first day because of hurricane, then noticed he could not eat nectar from an orange slice because his proboscis had not fused.
