Spent an hour at the same location that I reported on September 7, 2021 and where I have observed Monarchs every school day since. Observed Monarchs on the east side of various deciduous and coniferous trees along the Leamington Greenway where it intersects with Oak Street on the south side of Oak Street. The majority were on their favourite English Beech tree and a smaller Oak tree. Storm overnight blew from the west and all Monarchs were observed on the east side of the trees. Downed branches and leaves indicated they must have endured quite a lot of wind. Anecdotal report from a lady walking the path said there was hail. This same lady helped me to identify the English Beech. As the sun shone on the Monarchs they opened their wings to warm themselves. Some were then observed flying eastward to the clover field adjacent to the trail at the southwest corner of Oak and Sherk Streets. When I left at 9:15 AM the temperature was 19�C and there was a light wind out of the north with sunny skies. The low overnight was 17�C according to Environment Canada. All monarchs were counted using my binoculars. Monarchs observed on Wednesday, September 15. I am documenting the roost on Tuesday, September 14 as they would have spent the night there.
