At 6:10 pm was looking out my front window and saw a ruby-throated hummingbird [no white tail spots, no clear view of throat] nectaring on Tithonia. No camera handy. Hummer then briefly perched on one of the Tithonia petioles, then resumes flight to check out other red flowers in the yard [Salvia, Tropical milkweeds], and then flew east out of sight. Compared with the more efficient and selective foraging behaviors of other hummers I've sighted this year, this one acted as if it was not familiar with the most reliable nectar sources, hovering in front of and "eyeballing" anything red. My guess is it was either a migrant or juvenile.
