Bald Eagle
Sightings report image

Date: 09/16/2021

Number: 1

2 adult eagles again perched in the huge black cottonwood on the west shore of the Kennebec River, a favorite perch. today we chatted with another observer walking his aggressive boxer and grizzled black lab dogs. this other observer had also seen the two eagles reported here this morning. he also spoke of seeing two recent fledglings in the same tree weeks ago during summer 2021. the young eagles then still had bits of down on their heads and backs at the time observed. this other eagle observer did not know where the eagle eyrie might be located [we think not far away but on the eastern shore of the Kennebec River perhaps in one of the larger white pines on the river shore]. note the distinct size differential between the two eagles in this image.
