two main roosts in two oak trees (part of larger copse with mixed trees), 400 in one, 100 in another; in low-hanging branches without many leaves; east, south east-facing; 30 counted nectaring on boneset, goldenrod, and thistle in adjacent prairie; small stirrings started around 7 a.m., with individuals and smallish groups taking flight gradually until end of observation at 8:50 a.m.; estimates based on attempting to count numbers in perfectly still random clusters, then extrapolating to total clusters observed.
