Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/18/2021

Number: 3

We are down to 3, I think. There could be more, but I only spotted 3 today. Two of the three are juveniles that I've gotten to know well and I see these two all throughout the day. Another one of my very favorite female juveniles left yesterday morning, the 17th. I called her Squeak as she would squeak as soon as she would see me. She would immediately come to wherever I was and even follow me. When I would sit outside, she would perch very nearby and squeak at me. When I was watering the plants all throughout the yard, she would follow me and perch and squeak. I loved watching her tend to her flowers all around the patio. Of all of our hummingbirds this year, she really took her time with the flowers and seemed to take pride in them. She was a very sweet hummingbird and definitely showed me a different side of them. I had no idea that they could have personalities like hers. This year has been very eye opening to me. It's been so rewarding and inspiring. I've learned so much more about them. I always thought hummingbirds were really cool. Now, I really love them!

One of the remaining juveniles shifted her location today and seems to be very happy taking over from where Squeak left off. However, it's very interesting as this one, whom I refer to as Sprite, is not nearly as interested in the flowers as Squeak was. The third juvenile, Little Gem, stays a bit more hidden up above her feeder in a Japanese Maple tree. Both of these two also are interested in me as well and the interest has grown with time. They both also like to perch near me and just sit with me. It really is incredible to spend time with hummingbirds. If you haven't done it yet, I highly recommend it!

I have a feeling that the rest of my little friends will start their migration soon too. I will miss them so much. I already miss the ones who have left! God Speed little hummers!
