Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/18/2021

Number: 1

We planted milkweed in our yard this spring. In the summer, we counted 7 monarch caterpillars on our milkweed plants (and had to run out and buy more to plant in a hurry to make sure they all had enough to eat). We only managed to find one nearby chrysalis by the end of summer. The whole family camped out the morning it looked like Marshall (as our 4-yr-old son named the marshmallow-textured caterpillar) was about to emerge. And Marshall did not disappoint! He emerged beautifully! He had the spots on his wing indicating that he is male. His wings dried for about 4 hours, then he started his journey to Mexico.
