Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 09/21/2021

Number: 1

I have released 16 butterflies this year. 10 females and 6 males.
I still have four chrysalides and two J caterpillars.

I see monarchs flying around the yard and on the butterfly bushes every day. I have a milkweed patch of about 30 plants. Common Milkweed and Swamp Milkweed. I have seen very few eggs on the milkweed this year. I did collect a few tiny cats but none larger. There are a lot of black ants and spiders in the patch. Last year the patch was contaminated by the insecticide my neighbor sprayed on his grass and I didn’t get a single egg or cat from the patch. I was able to collect cats elsewhere, but milkweed was scarce last year. This year the milkweed has been plentiful.
