I prefer saucer style feeders, but for migration I try to offer at least one to three bottle style feeders because hummingbirds come from the north not knowing how to use the saucers. This morning a hummingbird ignored the saucers in favor of flowers (nasturtiums and Salvia microphylla "Hot Lips") and this evening there were three hummingbirds around the one bottle feeder I had hanging up and none on a dozen or more saucers. I decided to put out a couple more bottles. When I brought the first one out, a hummingbird was sitting on a saucer and looked almost as if it would like to fly to the feeder in my hand.
