Three (3) adult Monarch butterflies sighted today (9/22/21). There were two (2) males and one (1) female. All three were found in some weeds near the ground within 3 feet of each other. They were about 4 feet away from some Blue mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum) that recently started blooming and about 30 feet from some Swamp milkweed (A. incarnata) and Tropical milkweed (A. curassavica). I noticed that a Monarch chrysalis I’ve been watching had just opened this morning or last night. So I suspect that one of the 3 adult Monarchs sighted today may have been that one. Regardless, one of the adult males I saw today had a small tear out of one of its wings, while the other male and the female both looked completely intact. I was able to move two of them onto the nearby Blue mistflower, the male with a torn wing and the female, where I noticed the female beginning to feed on the flower nectar. The other male flew away with the breeze when I tried to move him.
