A wonderful surprise sighting in late afternoon, of a gorgeous (looked brand new!) monarch butterfly, flying low over the coastal prairie landscape of Vista Trail, Sonoma County, CA! This monarch is my first sighting for this species in 2021, so I celebrated! :) It was a hot day on the coast with a warm breeze, which is rare (usually cool and windy). Perfect for this butterfly, who I didn't see stop to feed on the blooming coyote bushes, but just kept flying along the coast over the grasses and bushes.
