Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 09/25/2021

Number: 186

This was my fourth summer of rearing Monarchs from eggs that I found on common milkweed in my gardens to butterflies! 186 adults released!!!

It was a slow start to the season not having discovered any eggs until the 2 week in July. Only one chrysalis failed to mature properly and I lost two caterpillars due to some sort of malady. I separated each from the group as soon as I noticed a potential problem, cleaned and sanitized everything.

Yearly totals—
2018 total adults released 117
2019 total adults released. 147
2020 total adults released only 4(a very disappointing year)
2021 total adults released 186

Peak migration in my garden came the week of September 13th when I counted at least 30 butterflies nectaring over the course of the week.

Please let me know how I can be of further assistance to your project. Helping preserve Monarch butterflies continues to be a rewarding and gratifying commitment for me!

Thank you for all you do!
