Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/26/2021

Number: 200

I think this is a low count of how many are roosting on our creek. There are males and females. As you can see there would be 25-30 on a branch and leaves. It was so magical.

[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 09/27/21]:

It is their 4th night to roost on our creek.
There is water from the creek but goldenrod and ragweed are plentiful in the pasture. And some wild salvia is along the bank of creek.
At my garden, which is about an 1/8 of a mile from the creek, I have lots of blue and red salvia. I seen some coming and drink from these.
Overnight temps have been in the 60’s with highs around 90 degrees during the day. The wind is out of the south with gusts but down on the creek there is no wind to speak of.
They are roosting on Catalpa leaves and really like the cedar trees.
My way of counting is counting a group roosting and then how many groups.
So that is how I’m getting the 200 count. I still think I’m low on the count.
