a single fresh monarch nectaring on scarlet runner bean at 0908 hrs. this butterfly made a wide circle in the yard defined by tall pine and maple trees and then departed directly toward the south over a tall hedge of lilacs. bright sun today, the coolest morning temperature yet this early autumn (57 F with SW breeze <5 mph)
