today while weeding an herb garden overrun this summer with husk cherry and witch grass (Panicum) we found two monarch chrysalises. one dark and within hours of emergence (image here) and another still bright green. these constitute our only evidence of local monarch reproduction for both summer 2020 and 2021. since the weeds had been pulled, we attached each chrysalis with its original support to a bush cherry twig using zip ties. we will wait and watch for eventual emergence - perhaps.
