Signs of Fall

Date: 09/28/2021

Number: 1

The young turkeys are just about full grown. I have counted 14. Two fawns have visited the apple trees with their mom; they are still sporting their spots. The hoot owls are getting more vocal just as the crickets are quieting down. A female bluebird has been frequenting observation posts, presumably to get a bird's eye view for foraging insects.

Biggest news! Bats are back. Haven't had any in years with white nose disease. Hopefully the environment will get back in balance, as the aphid population swelled in the absence of the bats.

Naturally, trees are changing color. Some were quite stressed by heat and drought this year.

Just like every where, it is a much warmer autumn than usual. I wonder if I'll ever have a good blizzard again in my lifetime. Moved to Maine two decades ago for the colder weather, but my winter parka gets very little use these days.
