Monarch, Captive-Reared

Date: 09/21/2021

Number: 1

Monarch butterfly #200 was released today. I never thought I would reach 100, so 200 was a dream...and all by saving the caterpillars and milkweed on my own property and the property of a friend. My property is somewhat toxic since I get sprayed by the railroad, the farmer and the crop dusters. We were diligent in searching for eggs so we could watch them, for caterpillars so that we could move them to the sunroom, and the timing of release of the butterflies. Although I will never again see the 100's of monarchs that used to stop by for a rest, perhaps some monarch watchers may benefit southwest of me.
