It was a most amazing experience to see so many monarchs relaxing attached to our willow tree.
[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 10/02/21]:
1)I saw it for first time on Wednesday 9/29/21. Unsure how long they stayed as I left town the next day
2)I am a Native plant gardener. So lots of native plants around including Milkweed, bee balms, button bush, ton of asters, solidagos, yellow composites, vernonias, native grasses etc. But right next to this roosting place are Native Hibiscus, lots of Pluchea camphorata and a swamp rose and lots of sedges.
3)Overnight temps just drop to upper 50’s.
Winds per weather channel says North, NW
4)They were roosting on Native Willows . It was a mildly windy day. They were quite sheltered and not disturbed as I watched them.
5)They were 40 on one branch. Other branches had 6/7. I just counted one after the other from top to bottom of that branch.
