Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 09/29/2021

Number: 60

Counted just over 60 monarchs nectaring, but assumed some were counted twice so rounded down. However, I'm sure there were more as when I looked at some of the pictures I took, could see more monarchs than I counted. They were primarily nectaring on New England Asters, but also Mexican Sunflowers and a few on Joe Pye Weed. Other blooming flowers including other Asters were not utilized. Additional monarchs were resting individually, or occasionalky in groups of 2 or 3, on Oaks, Black Walnut, Catalpa, and Sassafras trees as well as Spice Bushes. Could not count them because many were high in the trees. Today, did not observe any monarchs flying onto our property. Observation was 4:40 pm to 5:00. pm. The temperature was 86 and the wind SSE at 6 mph.
