There were 4 roosts of about 20 or more monarchs, 3 in oak trees, and 1 in a sassafras tree. Additionally, there were individual butterflies, pairs, and small groups of 3 to 5. Most of the groups and individuals were in oak trees. At 6:00 to 6:30 pm the butterflies were counted. The largest roost in the picture had over 50 butterflies (The picture taken at 7:06 pm by flashlight only shows 1/3 of the roost.) The 4 roosts totaled 110+. The other butterflies in the trees were rough counted and estimated at 50+. Flying butterflies were not counted or estimated. The roosts had already started started forming at 4:30 pm when it was partially sunny, 77°, with a SSE wind at 9 mph.
