Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/02/2021

Number: 100

There were hundreds of Monarch butterflies up high in the tree canopy. They have been here for 3 days.

[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 10/07/21]:

The roost formed around 9/29/21 and they are still there. Unsure of nearby nectar sources. It's out in the middle of the country in SW Okla. Grassland, cropland, between a pond and 2 small creeks. The trees they're in are in between the pong and Jack Creek. Overnight temps in low 60's. Wind direction varies, but when I reported them the wind was from the north. Roosting in Pecan trees. It is not protected from wind, although wind was light when reported. The number is estimated. It is the most I have ever seen in one place in my life.
