Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/04/2021

Number: 100

Lots of Monarchs passing over the house today. Love see them but first time we've been outside watching them pass over.

[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 10/06/21]:

We were outside enjoying the weather and the pool after work and I happened to be looking up just relaxing and saw 2 float by. They were pretty high up and actually the way they were floating I thought they were bats.

For about 2 hours we noticed them flying by the house, some were really high and didn’t realize they were flying over. Once we realized they were passing by we started counting. I just laid on my back with my feet in the pool they were everywhere high low, on my roses and fluttering by.

We started noticing them around 5:30pm and counted until about 7:00pm. Most were just floating by over our house, we have a hay field so not much water or anything. Couple did come in low for pool flyover and some hit our rose bush. But most were fluttering by on the wind, in a southwesterly route

Wind and/or weather conditions-temps were about 86 degrees with a light wind out of the north northeast, most were floating and then would circle and jump back on the windstream

We were out again yesterday afternoon, but not as many this time, maybe in the span of 2 hours we saw 15-20.
