Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 10/03/2021

Number: 1

The little (now quite round) female I've hosted all summer/mid fall was nectaring on black and blue salvia all day into the early evening on Sunday, 10/3. It's been a very good season for her! Not only did the salvia produce (and are still producing we have had very mild weather) loads of blooms, but she had the advantage of many other flowers and two feeders to choose from since April. Some interlopers would occasionally stop by, including 4 hummingbirds both mature and grown passing through on their migration a couple of weeks ago. She held them off like a pro! LOL. Aphrodite, as I have named her, spent a lot of time resting on nearby tomato cages and then voraciously eating on Sunday. I had a feeling this might be the last full day of seeing her. I was right. I'm thrilled that she's very healthy and on her way back to her winter home! I'll definitely miss her, but like clockwork she (and possibly her progeny) will return in April. I'll be ready and happily waiting!
