After I set up a sprinkler to water some lilacs I planted this past summer, many chickadees started flitting around in the leaves, taking advantage of the shower. I was taken by surprise when a larger bird emerged from behind the leaves, and when I saw the yellow tail tip, I realized it was a cedar waxwing. Very unexpected coloring based on my previous sightings of cedar waxwings and images in bird books, but a bit of googling revealed that it was likely a juvenile. The Wis. Soc. for Ornithology has a photo of a bird with similar coloring.
