Our remaining two resident hummingbirds departed a few days ago (10/6). Since then, we have had visitors every day. It's really hard to say how many there are, as their behavior and habits aren't established and predictable in our yard. With my resident hummers, I knew exactly where I could find each one. Today, I observed one or more hummingbirds both in our backyard and front yard throughout the afternoon all the way until dusk. The hummer(s) used multiple feeders and were in the flowers too. One hummer spent a decent amount of time resting, preening, and perching on top of our mock orange off of the patio in our backyard. This is a favorite perch of many of our resident hummers. And this particular hummer also seemed quite comfortable with humans as well, as it didn't mind me out on the patio at the same time.
It's so nice to have the travelers coming through. I'll continue to provide them with fresh feeders. I still have 6 out. At least 5 of the 6 are still being used. I may drop down to 5 tomorrow.
