Today at around 1:30pm I saw 4 monarch butterflies. They were nectaring, resting, and looking for milkweed to lay eggs on at times. I think they were all females. It was 94 degrees F, partly cloudy, with a light wind from the south, and 51% humidity.
This is a photo of one of the monarchs as she nectars from a Snow-on-the-prairie (Euphorbia bicolor) plant. There were many to choose from and she went from one to another, needing nectar on this hot summer day. She has very fresh, bright wings.
