Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/17/2021

Number: 11

I found 11 monarch caterpillars while checking some of the milkweed plants in late afternoon. They were 1st through 4th instars. I also found 14 monarch eggs on other milkweed plants. Earlier this afternoon I had seen a large monarch sailing around in the pasture, fluttering low by the milkweed, but wasn't able to take a photo at that time. This is a photo of a little 2nd instar resting on a milkweed leaf (Asclepias viridis) in the early evening sunset.
