I found 14 monarch eggs while checking some of the milkweed plants in late afternoon. I also found 11 monarch caterpillars (1st-4th instars). Earlier this afternoon I had seen a large monarch sailing around in the pasture, fluttering low by the milkweed, but wasn't able to take a photo at that time. There are a lot of fresh milkweed plants, including some with flower buds and some flowering. This is a photo at dusk of one of the monarch eggs in an Asclepias viridis bud crown.
