This afternoon I saw 3 female monarchs laying eggs on milkweed plants. They also nectared on flowering milkweed and goldenrod. It was sunny, 79 degrees F, 30% humidity, and with wind 11 mph from the north. They were all very active and diligent about finding milkweed, including newly emerging sprouts.
This is a photo of one of the monarchs laying an egg in the crown of a young milkweed plant (Asclepias viridis).
