Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/13/2021

Number: 40

We have been counting the monarchs as they are stopping to nectar on our black knight butterfly bushes. There have been up to 5 at a time simultaneously on bushes in the back as well as front of our home. We have other butterfly bushes in bloom, but the monarchs prefer the black knights. They nectar and fly south in groups several times a day until approximately 7:00pm. I noted the number 40 to include all that we observe nectaring as we count throughout the day. This number count may be greater because we only observe randomly each day. The count is accurate for the times we have been in our gardens. Visitations have been occurring every day for the past two weeks. We have tried to identify the sex, and the majority appear to be female.
