A beautiful afternoon with at least 250 monarchs at the Tip at Point Pelee National Park!
A sunny 16°c with strong WNW wind 31/42kmh. Overnight low 8c. Sunset 6:44.
They just kept arriving high from the east on the warm & calm east side of the Tip. They arrived from over the lake or high at treetops.
Eight different areas of clusters were established before 4:30pm. A few were still arriving as I left the area.
Largest roost area of about 65 monarchs on Grapevine cascading from a Hackberry tree & on nearby Grapevine all in interior sheltered areas. Other clusters were also on Hackberry trees.
All but 2 appeared pristine. Because they were basking I observed nice plump abdomens. The 2 had worn torn wings but what remained had good vibrant colour & they too had plump abdomens.
Observations by eye, binoculars & camera.
