Counted at least 500 monarchs at Rick Evans Grandview Prairie on Sunday. We are sure there were many more there because we only checked about half of the area. The first group was feeding on what appears to be bur marigold along the south side of a small pond just inside the entrance - there were at least 300 in that one area. The others were located along two of the roads through the prairie in clumps of purple asters, white asters and goldenrod. The picture we sent (if it is posted) was taken last weekend but it shows some of the flowers and the pond described earlier. We were there from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM. and were able to tag 117 of the ones we saw - we have been tagging monarchs since 1997 and are not as quick as we used to be.
