Sightings report image

Date: 10/29/2021

Number: 200

Third week of monarch migration at Lake Buchanan. Found huckleberry tree packed full of monarchs. Great to see so many after three week of monarchs coming thru. Have not seen so many in past years here.

[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 11/01/21]:

Roost formed Wednesday Oct 27 and lasted until Saturday Oct 30

Large swaths of cow pen daisies were immediately in front of the roost as a nectar source as well as in the surrounding neighborhood.

Heavy winds (20+ knots) Wednesday and Thursday from the north. Roost was facing south and in a wind break.

Roost was on Hackberry tree and some surrounding cedar trees, and it was shielded from the wind.

The number of butterflies in a section of the photograph were counted and then counted how many sections were in the photograph.
