Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/25/2021

Number: 1230

In the Avándaro Park stream, I counted an approximate of 1,230 perched monarchs this morning distributed in a total of 58 trees. Col. Lomas del Paseo, Monterrey, N.L. 8:00 am 23°C clear sky, light breeze. Start point of the route: 25.622014, -100.298203, end point of the route: 25.618664, - 100.302333 (around 500 m long). We observe that where the tree canopy is too closed there are not many butterflies, only in the upper parts of the canopy, in contrast, where the vegetation is more open, more perches are observed, in the middle and lower parts of the trees. We also see that they prefer trees with thin leaves.
