I did not see the Monarchs the week before when I walked there November 1st, so it started some time between November 2-7th when I walked on November 8th & 9th 2021 and saw the "roost".
There is Cliff Buckwheat (Eriogonum parvifolium) and Bush Sunflower planted in the area around the tall pine trees that the butterflies were on. The Cliff Buckwheat is the host plant of the endangered El Segundo Blue Butterfly.

From on-line weather data: Nov. 9, Low of 59 degrees, High of 64, 6 am winds North Northwest, 5 mph
Tall pine trees were the roost trees.
I tried to find the largest grouping on one tree and roughly count the number but it was just a rough estimate...there seemed to be a few insects scattered around in other trees. I surely underestimated the true number. There were a few on the ground needing to warm-up and some scattered broken wing parts.
