Monarch, Captive-Reared
Sightings report image

Date: 11/12/2021

Number: 1

I found a large Monarch caterpillar on my Common Milkweed on approx. 10/19/21. We were having some cold temperatures at that time so I brought it inside to hopefully help speed up the process to a chrysalis. (I do raise them so I had a cage.) It went into a chrysalis on 10/21/2021. The chrysalis stayed green until 11/10/21 and then started to turn black. I thought it had died in the chrysalis but it ended up coming out in the morning on 11/12/2021. The weather has been unusually warmer in our area lately. We are having a rainy, windy day in the 60s on 11/12 but it is now going to get colder with many nights in the low 30s.
