Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 11/15/2021

Number: 3000

We saw many monarch butterflies flying south. The video showed the end of it, but we saw many more in a constant flight for about 12 minutes.
I counted groups of ten and there were at least 200 or 300 groups.

[Additional information and photo contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 11/11/21]:

They flew past for about 20 minutes, with the amount of butterflies decreasing towards the end of the 20 minute period. It was about 4 pm CT.

They were all flying in the same direction which I believe was southeast. They were about 6 meteres above the ground with some butterflies fluttering a little lower, like 1.5 meters from the ground.

The climate was relatively warm - maybe 24 Celsius and not windy.

I took [this picture] towards the end of the 20 minutes. Their density of the monarchs was much greater at the beginning.
