Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 11/21/2021

Number: 5

Spotted 5 large Monarch caterpillars in the garden today. They look healthy and most likely are in their 5th instar. Noticed about 8 dead caterpillars as well. They seemed to be dying for some reason, unknown to me, in their 4th-5th instar. Their bodies turned 50%-100% black and they are flaccid and hanging from leaves and draped on branches of Mexican Bush Sage, roses, Cosmos and Milkweed. I have both native and tropical milkweed in the garden.
