The first Monarchs arrived in mid August and stayed for several weeks. The migration steadiy increased throughout September and peaked in late October with 25 or more sightings in our back yard. There were two that continued feeding until mid November then left as the temps dropped.
The food of choice was purple zenias flowers, then pink zenias. Unlike past years, they passed on mist flower and frost weed.
I also had a beautiful pair of yellow southern swallow tails and a black swallow tail. Absolutely magnificent.
Next year I will plant only purple zenias and staggering the planting to coincide with the waved arrival of Monarchs.
