The 5th Grade Cardinal Leadership Team, The Monarch Society, broke ground for a new garden on Leadership Day to create a Monarch Butterfly Habitat as part of their mission to help protect Monarch Butterflies and build community awareness. They transplanted existing milkweed from the playground into self- watering containers on loan from the Naples Botanical Gardens, in soil generously donated by The Golden Gate Nursery.
We already found 5 caterpillar larvae and will update our data collection with The Journey North Monarch Symbolic Migration Project. Our next steps are to build community awareness and support around our mission by curating the garden and posting signs in the school hallways, through PSAs.
