Elk were reintroduced to WV in 2018. They were from Kentucky and Arizona. The last recorded sighting of elk in WV was 1875. I saw an elk in the late 1970's in Raleigh County WV. It crossed the road in front of my car. I described my giant monster of a deer to a relative and was told it was an elk. There have been unofficial sightings. East of the Mississippi elk were killed out by game hunting for food. Elk to be sold in stores and habitat loss due to logging in the 19th century.
