Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 12/04/2021

Number: 12

I first noticed adults flying together in November. Within days I saw eggs and watched them for a couple of weeks. Not until dec 4th did I see the first caterpillar. within 10 days there were over a dozen and slowly the numbers decreased. A week before Christmas the majority of caterpillars had disappeared. then on Christmas Day we saw our first sighting of a butterfly. I did not know about reporting these non migrating monarchs until Christmas Day so excuse the lengthy post. Today12/28/2021 there are a couple flying together. As for milkweed, there is not much native plants so most people buy from nurseries that sell 99% tropical milkweed.
