Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 01/01/2022

Number: 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR! This monarch just emerged from its chrysalis this morning! During the Christmas holiday we have had many, many monarchs and a major hatching of them in the milkweed patch. The caterpillars ate every (I mean EVERY) leaf from the plants! They were even trying to feed on the seed pods. We have found at least two dozen chrysalides.
Adults have already emerged from some; others remain in the "green" stage. A cold front is expected tonight with temperature dropping as much as 40 degrees, so I don't know how they will fare.
